Introducing The Lid

First of all: Geez it's so good to see you here, at my website, of all places on the internet. Lately, websites have gotten overlooked by flashier real estate on the internet landscape. Places like Instagram and TikTok that really have figured out how to hook you and keep you distracted-I mean engaged-on their platform. So, to bump into you here of all places is kind of a miracle. If I could, I'd buy you a drink! In fact, if we do meet in person-mention it and I will: coffee, a beer, whatever.

I'm not sure what brought you in, but I'm here because it's a nice break from the noise of social media. The thousands of voices out there-a mix of influencers, advertisers, marketing teams, entertainers, and just regular folks finding their niche out on the world wide web-all talking at the same time and trying to get you to jump aboard their wagon train. It's fine. I get it! I'm doing the same thing, just hopefully a little less loudly and little less intense.

That's sort of the main reason I'm starting a physical newsletter called The Lid. It's a call-back to when newsprint was king! I'm talking gazettes and journals and chronicles. You may not remember a time when we all read the news instead of watched it on the television or a phone screen-it was a long time ago. I mean, I'm not even of that era having grown up tuning into the 5 O'clock news with my parents, but now that I'm older, I crave physcial media and the act of reading off screen.

I'm starting off simple. The Lid will be a monthly, one sheet newsletter that I write specifically without the internet in mind. Expect personal slice of life stories, tidbits, short essays, and opinions about minor things like how come new fast food restaurants have two drive through windows, but within about a month or two of opening just make everyone go to one. Why even build the first window at all? They're eventually just going to put boxes of inventory in front of it and forget it exists!? Get the idea? The point is to bring you some news that you can't find online and offer a break from the endless scroll, the swipe, the pinch and zoom, the sound of a notification and the God-awful infiltration of artificial intelligence.

Okay you got me-there is a catch. I can't just give The Lid away for free. Things these days cost money-some might argure more money now than ever-and I need help covering things like printing costs and the purchase of the stamp. So, I'm offering The Lid to everyone that joins my Patreon at any tier level. I have different support tiers: $2, $5, and $10; but everyone gets the same rewards at each tier, the different levels are there just for those that can afford to give more and want to. So, for as little as $2 a month-that's less than a cup of coffee even at a place like QT or 7-Eleven, and half the price of most single issue comics books, I'll mail you a copy of The Lid straight to your mailbox every month.

That's a small price to pay for a tangible oasis in the midst of a digital desert, wouldn't you say? Where to sign up? Click this link right here and you'll be on your way. I'll also be sending you a monthly sticker I design as well. Want to know a little secret? If you're not familiar with Patreon, you can also become a subscriber over on Substack and get access to the same articles as well. The only downside there is I won't be mailing you a physical copy (which is part of the fun). But-to each their own-as they say.

Well...I got to get going. Look, it was good seeing you here. Hope to see you back soon. Look for me next time-I'll be here at my little corner table by the window people watching and day dreaming. See you 'round.
